SUMMARY:Jason Peot & Perry Pollock Exhibition\, "Considerations"
DESCRIPTION:Chicago area artists Jason Peot and Perry Pollock will have their two-person exhibition\, “Considerations”\, on display February 20 through March 21 at the Western Illinois University Art Gallery. \nA closing reception for the artists will be held Thursday\, March 21\, 4:30-6:00 p.m. The artists will speak about their work at 5:00 pm. \nJason Peot and Perry Pollock have been faculty colleagues for over twenty years in the Art and Design Department at Harper College in Palatine\, IL—one of the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Peot oversees the design and sculpture curriculum and Pollock\, the drawing and painting curriculum. Both artists work in a non-representational mode and emphasize meticulous attention to design and craft. There is an austerity and geometry that binds their work\, but their conceptual intentions offer very different considerations. \nThe works in this exhibition are juxtaposed to highlight both artists’ shared and contrasting approaches to art making. Pollock’s minimalist objects are designed independent of their surroundings. In contrast\, Peot’s work directly references it’s environment or location. The work in this two-person exhibition focuses on these similarities and differences to offer viewers a unique experience.

SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Lantern Walk
DESCRIPTION:Bundle up and join us in the prairie for the Winter Solstice! This solstice marks the longest night and shortest day of the year\, as well as the official beginning of winter. To celebrate\, we’ll gather together at dusk with lanterns to enjoy the beauty of the season and the return of the sun. We encourage you to bring your own handmade lantern illuminated with an LED light or borrow one of ours and walk with us through the Lakeview Prairie Labyrinth.\nBring your friends and family\, but please leave your pets at home. This walk is held entirely outside\, we encourage you to dress appropriately for the weather and walking. The Lakeview Prairie Labyrinth is a half mile to the center and a processional path is available for a faster exit from the center. For everyone’s safety\, we ask that you only use LED lights and no live flame candles. We can’t wait to celebrate the solstice with you in the prairie!
