DESCRIPTION:— The Western Illinois University Community Art Program\, hosted by the WIU Department of Art\, will be presented on Sundays from Oct. 22 – Nov. 12 at the West Central Illinois Arts Center\, in downtown Macomb and at Garwood Hall on the WIU campus. \nThe free program is for students in first through eighth grades. Classes will be held Oct. 22 and 29 and Nov. 5 and 12 from 1–2:30 p.m. and from 3–4:30 p.m. \n• First and second grades – 1-2:30 p.m. in Garwood Hall 24 \nStudents in this class will embrace the autumn season by exploring new mediums in fall inspired pieces. They will work with materials such as clay\, ceramic paint\, watercolor and more\, as well as create weaved apple orchard basket paintings\, ceramic painted pumpkins\, festival plates for Thanksgiving tables and scenic fall landscape. \n• Third and fourth grades – 1-2:30 p.m. at the West Central Illinois Arts Center \nStudents in this class will use mix-media approach to create artworks\, such as animal bobble heads out of clay and a mix-media bird sculpture. In addition\, the children will learn about the habitants where different animals reside. They will also explore different media and create artworks in 3D form. \n• Fifth-eighth grades – 3-4:30 p.m. in Garwood Hall 24 \nYoung artists in this class will get to experiment with epoxy in making 3D art projects that all relate to the fall season. They will be using different mediums to create 3D projects. The 8-hour program consists of instructor guidance\, a video\, and discussion of driving concerns. You will also learn tips on how to avoid driving hazards. There is no driving involved and no tests are given. \nIllinois state law requires that all insurance companies give an auto insurance discount to all drivers age 50 and older who complete this accident prevention course. Please contact your auto insurance agent regarding the amount of your discount. \nThe course is $15 for AARP members with a valid card\, and $20 for non-members\, payable to AARP the day of the course. Classes will be held Oct. 22 and 29 and Nov. 5 and 12 from 1–2:30 p.m. and from 3–4:30 p.m. \n• First and second grades – 1-2:30 p.m. in Garwood Hall 24 \nStudents in this class will embrace the autumn season by exploring new mediums in fall inspired pieces. They will work with materials such as clay\, ceramic paint\, watercolor and more\, as well as create weaved apple orchard basket paintings\, ceramic painted pumpkins\, festival plates for Thanksgiving tables and scenic fall landscape. \n• Third and fourth grades – 1-2:30 p.m. at the West Central Illinois Arts Center \nStudents in this class will use mix-media approach to create artworks\, such as animal bobble heads out of clay and a mix-media bird sculpture. In addition\, the children will learn about the habitants where different animals reside. They will also explore different media and create artworks in 3D form. \n• Fifth-eighth grades – 3-4:30 p.m. in Garwood Hall 24 \nYoung artists in this class will get to experiment with epoxy in making 3D art projects that all relate to the fall season. They will be using different mediums to create 3D projects. SUMMARY:A Taste of India--International Scholarship Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Western Illinois University chapter of Phi Beta Delta\, an international honor society\, will host its fifth annual scholarship dinner themed\, “A Taste of India\,” at 6 p.m. Friday\, Nov. 3 at the Campus Students for Christ House\, 1545 Riverview Dr.\, Macomb. \nThe fundraiser will feature a silent auction\, entertainment and authentic Indian cuisine. All proceeds benefit scholarships supporting international education at Western. Two scholarships of $500 each will be awarded; one to a WIU student studying abroad and one to an international student at WIU. \nTickets for the scholarship dinner are available at Memorial Hall 347 and Citizens Bank on the Macomb square. Advance tickets for students are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. Tickets for non-students are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets for children ages 6-12 are $5 and children ages 5 and under will be admitted free.
