SUMMARY:Storytelling Sundays as part of the Home Grown: Celebrating the Family Farm project
DESCRIPTION:The Western Illinois Museum to launch a new series\nStorytelling Sundays\nas part of the Home Grown: Celebrating the Family Farm project \nThe Western Illinois Museum launches Storytelling Sundays\, a new series of programs that feature local family farmers.  Storytelling Sundays will be offered on the third Sunday of the month beginning March 15th at 1:30 pm with the exception of May and June.  The program will be held on the museum’s indoor\, Our Front Porch space. The event is free and open to the public\, donations appreciated. \nThe public is invited to these informal gatherings that take their cue from the Sunday dinner table where the conversation is respectful\, casual\, and topics are fluid.  Sunday dessert will be served –as it should be!  For each gathering\, a local farm family will be the featured storyteller and will share their stories as well as encourage others to participate. Long-time McDonough County farmer Bill Trotter and his son Kevin will kick off the series on March 15th. \nThe new series is part of the Home Grown: Celebrating the Family Farm initiative to document the deep traditions and long history of the farming community.  Curator Sue Scott commented\, “The idea for Storytelling Sundays came from wanting more people to hear the stories we were collecting in oral history interviews. These stories are part of our history and if they are not heard and preserved\, they are lost. The museum is working to ensure that does not happen.” \nStorytelling Sundays will be held on Sundays on the following dates; March 15th\, April 19th\, July 19th\, August 16th\, September 20th\, October 18th\, November 15th\, and December 20th. Upcoming featured storytelling families will be posted on the museum’s website and Facebook pages\, as well as in the local papers. \nStorytelling Sundays will be held at the Western Illinois Museum located at 201 South Lafayette Street\, one block south of Macomb’s historic Courthouse Square.  The building is fully handicap accessible and there is free parking.
