Author Joel Estes will read and discuss his book, STAND – a middle-grade contemporary fiction novel. Join us for this FREE event! Thursday, April 11 4:00-5:00 PM Horrabin Hall Theater (Room #114) Western Illinois University Macomb IL 61455 Free event parking available in the Horrabin Hall lot (corner of N. Western Avenue and Riverview Drive), and a map is available at https://www.wiu.edu/about/campus-map-web.php Ethan Strong, has been suspended from middle school. But, that’s not his most burning dilemma, so has his best friend, Demarcus Washington. Ethan is white; Demarcus is black and is regularly confronted with discrimination and systemic racism as a young black boy in America. As their relationship evolves, Ethan is forced to come to terms with the question of his own identity and must decide when and how he will stand for his growing consciousness of prejudice, discrimination, and his own privilege.
