Summer Training Camp
Macomb was proud to host the summer training camp for
the National Football League St.
Louis Rams from 1996 through
2004. In 2005, the Rams decided to hold training camp at their
own facilities in the St. Louis metro area. Rams Coach
Mike Martz was widely quoted as
saying " Macomb was terrific. They treated us
so well. And if we were going to go away anywhere again for camp, that's certainly
where we would go. But I think at this point we're better served staying at
home."
And Macomb will certainly miss the Rams, and wishes them the
best (see you in Earth City!)
Some of the highlights of Training Camp in Macomb included:
- nine consecutive training camps from 1996 through 2004
- estimated
196,000 visitors
- Super Bowl
XXXIV Champions (1999-2000 Season)
- 2000 Summer Training Camp Scrimmage
dubbed "Super Bowl 34 1/2" -- Rams vs. Titans for sell out
at Macomb/WIU Hanson Field
- 2001 NFC Champions
- 2004 Summer Training Camp Scrimmage - Rams vs. Bears for sell
out at Macomb/WIU Hanson Field.
